Make your own simple stylus in 10 minutes for $0

Your goal is to create a big blob of foil on the end of a pen body that is about the same size as the end of your finger. Touchpads work by conducting electricity through your finger (your body acts like a large ground). The stylus simulates your finger and since it is the shape of a pen, you can create your signature much more naturally on the touchpad using a stylus.

1. Step One Get a pen with a metal body and remove the insides so you are left with just a metal tube.
2. Step Two Get sheet of foil about 12 inches square. Tear a 3 inch strip off the sheet and fold it into a cylinder shape that can fit inside the pen body. You are just going to fit the cylinder tightly into the pen body so it extends about 1/2 inch and blocks off the opening in the pen body.
3. Step Three Tear off more 3 inch strips of foil, fold them in half length-wise (so each strip is a little thicker) and wrap them around the end of the pen body and the little bit of foil sticking out of the end of the pen body. Keep the end of each wrap lined up so you are creating a flat end to your blob. Continue to wrap more strips of foil around the end of the pen until you have a blob of foil about the width of the end of your forefinger and it has a flat end.
4. Step Four Finish off the wrap job with some tape to hold the foil in place. Do not go up to where you will hold the pen. Your fingers must have direct contact with the metal body to make a good ground and thus conduct electricity from the touchpad.
5. Step 5 Tap the end of your stylus on the table to put a little angle on the flat end of the stylus. Adjust the angle to how you like to hold a pen.

You Are Done! Give it a try! When you practice your signature, you might need to re-orient your stylus back to the left side of the touchpad for each letter.
