Here
is some more information about the Ullr Instructor Training program:
·
All evening meetings are at Bellevue High School - 601 108th Ave SE,
7:30-9:30 PM except as noted. Rooms open at 7:00 PM. We must clean up and be gone by 9:45 PM
·
Instructor Candidate
Training Sessions (classroom) covers all the above information about becoming an
instructor plus provides a description of all the Ullr snow sports programs so
you can think about which program you would like to teach for. It also covers
what happens during the typical instructor’s day, an introduction to the PSIA
American Teaching System (ATS) and its major components, and the Teaching Model
and Skiing/Riding Model. In addition, we show you how skis and snowboards are
designed to turn (this may surprise you!). At the end of the classroom session
you can pay for your season pass ($65) that covers your lifts and for your PSIA
manual ($25 - optional). You will need the lift pass for the on-snow training
sessions.
·
Ullr U. Session #1 on Dec
2nd. At
this meeting you must pay for your season pass ($65) if you have not already
done so. This session focuses in more detail on how to work with children. We
continue to work through the Teaching Model where you construct your first
lesson plan and then lead a class.
·
The next two weekends of
on-snow sessions (Dec. 5-6 and Dec. 12-13) allows you to take what you
learned about the Teaching Model and practice leading a class through a small
portion of the Skiing/Riding Model. The Dec.13th session is where the Ullr
directors, supervisors, and senior instructors (your clinic leaders) will be
making final decisions about whether to offer you an Instructor position for
the season. Even if you do not qualify as an Instructor right away, you are
still on the staff as a Cadet Instructor (an Instructor in training) and with
either position you can choose to work for Community Service credit (Bellevue
Ski School program assignments only - check with your Career Counseling Center).
·
One to two weeks after pre-season training is completed you will be
notified by phone by your clinic leader with your final grade and your
assignment for the coming season (Instructor or Cadet). If you qualify
initially as a Cadet, remember that we often promote Cadet Instructors to
Instructor during the season as needed to handle additional student enrollment
and special assignments.
